Author Washington Lee, also known by his Chinese name Qiguan Li, is a journalist, educator, and one of the first cohort of college students admitted through China’s national college entrance examination following the end of the decade-long Cultural Revolution. A steadfast believer in democracy, he deeply admired its principles and consistently spoke out in support of democratic ideals, freedom, and justice. He actively promoted political and economic reform and even collaborated with enterprises in Shanghai to pilot democratic reform initiatives—efforts that ultimately led to his brutal persecution by the Chinese Communist Party.
His book, End the Chinese Communist Tyranny, Revive the Chinese Civilization, is not only a personal account of political persecution and a plea for justice for the victims—it is also a powerful global call to recognize the realities of modern authoritarianism and to stand in solidarity with those striving to restore China’s rich and enduring civilization.
